The Department of Homeland Security informed Equifax of the flaw the following day and Equifax's Global Threats and Vulnerability Management team distributed an alert to 400 employees. In March 2017, Apache made a vulnerability in their software, Apache Struts, public and provided patches to fix it. The breach impacted customers who signed up for the service any time after July 2017 - with a total of 296,019 cases found to have been leaked. The company issued a public apology on the Japanese section of its global website, informing customers who had signed up for T-Connect - Toyota's online telematics service - that they may have had their information leaked to hackers.
